The Ministry of Amerindian Affairs is a government entity established in 2005 with its primary mission being to safeguard, protect, and promote the social, cultural, and economic interests of the Amerindian population and the Hinterland regions of Guyana. In 2006, a revised Amerindian Act was enacted, providing a legal framework to promote and protect the rights of Amerindians, including the recognition of collective rights for Amerindian villages and communities
