The Ministry of Amerindian Affairs is a government entity established in 2005 with its primary mission being to safeguard, protect, and promote the social, cultural, and economic interests of the Amerindian population and the Hinterland regions of Guyana. In 2006, a revised Amerindian Act was enacted, providing a legal framework to promote and protect the rights of Amerindians, including the recognition of collective rights for Amerindian villages and communities

Relationship With Ministry of Amerindian affairs

The GGMC recognises that there is a certain sensitivity to the many Amerindian communities that fall within the mining districts of Guyana and which partake actively in Mining. The Ministry of Amerindian Affairs is a valuable ally and facilitator, ensuring that the material framework of the Amerindian Act 2006, for example, is observed.
