The GGMC has the Petroleum Division within its structure and materially coordinates and collaborates with the Ministry of Natural Resources, wherein reside Petroleum Management functions and authority. The Minister of Natural Resources is the Minister Responsible for Petroleum.

Relationship With Petroleum
The Petroleum Management Program is one of three key initiatives within the Ministry of Natural Resources. Its mission is to develop and oversee policies for the responsible exploration and utilisation of natural resources while ensuring environmental protection and promoting a green economy. The program aims to facilitate the exploration, development, and production of petroleum resources by regulating and monitoring the industry. This approach ensures that these resources are developed economically, ultimately enhancing national prosperity and maximising benefits for all Guyanese.
